Happy Tuesday, middle school parents!

A few updates for you for this third week of online classes…

Last week during our staff meeting, we decided Fridays would serve as a catch up day for teachers and students. No new curriculum will be given and I will not host Google meets on Fridays. Previously assigned work is still expected to be completed/turned in. As I said, this should serve as a day to finish work; while I will still respond to students, it may be a bit more delayed than Monday – Thursday as I will be working on other things.

Gradelink will be back online for parents tomorrow. I am working through updating as much as I can, as quickly as I can. I have noted if an assignment has not been turned in to me (marked with an IC on Gradelink). One of things I am noticing with a few students is not following directions on how to submit assignments (for example, not attaching their diagrams on grammar assignments, in addition to the Google Forms review set). I have been messaging students with missing or incomplete assignments; please have them make sure to check their Vikings email account as messages I send on assignments are sent to this email. Additionally, they should see these assignments as missing on their Google Classroom assignment lists. I am giving these students the ability to still turn in these assignments for a grade.

SVS Parent/Guardian Consent for Video Conferencing
On Friday morning, Mr. Stutz sent out an message and a form to give teachers permission to record Google Meets.  He also sent this out in Monday’s parent newsletter. This is in compliance with Diocesan policy concerning teachers’ electronic communication with students. The recordings will not be released; they serve as documentation or as an attendance check only.  There is an option to opt out of video conferencing if you do not want your child to participate/be recorded. We appreciate you filling out the form. It can be reached here.

Students are required to participate in at least one Google Meet with me each week so I can check in with each student. If you have opted out of video conferencing or your child is unable to video chat for any reason during a particular week, your child should send me a quick email once a week, just so I have a check-in and know how everyone is doing. I will be keeping record. Most of the time this is just a quick “hi, how are you”, but this also serves as a way to make sure students understand my directions. I had some panicked messages late last Friday from a few students who were just then opening assignments they left for the last minute.

Please know we appreciate everything you are doing to support this time of distance learning! As always, feel free to reach out with questions or concerns. I am trying my best to make adjustments as we work through this time. I welcome feedback from both you as parents and from the students.

Thanks,
Ms. C
