A FEW NOTES FROM ME

  • 6th Grade Camp is fast approaching! We will have a parent meeting on Thursday, March at 7:00 p.m. in the Sixth Grade classroom. The program director from Camp Stevens will be present to give a preview of the program and answer any questions you, as a parent, may have. In addition, I will have payment updates, forms to fill out, and requests for information. At least one parent should be in attendance.
  • Big Bash – Donate champagne to Big Bash and 6th Grade has a chance to win a pizza party!
  • 6th – 8th Grade retreat, Steubenville, Thursday Mar 14, jeans and school polo and a packed lunch.
  • Informational Meeting for next year’s middle school! We hope you can join us! See flyer here (your child will have a flyer sent home Monday as well).
  • Jump for Heart is scheduled for Thursday, 3/21. More details to follow.
  • Reminder that we are using the Fort Stockton gate as our primary entrance. If you are stopping by the school during school hours, you must use the school office using the Fort Stockton gate. In an effort to increase instructional time and decrease interruptions, please leave uniforms, lunches, etc with the office staff, who will deliver to the classroom when appropriate. If you are going to a classroom, you must have a visitor’s pass/badge from the school office. Thank you!!!

Don’t forget – your child can play Prodigy at home to practice math skills! It’s a fun, interactive game that helps build math skills and is geared to your child’s individual level and needs!

THIS WEEK….

Reading/Language Arts:

Vocab – NO VOCAB THIS WEEK (lots of writing and grammar again!)

Writing: We have finalizing our argumentative (persuasive) essays. This week, we are working on revising and editing drafts, typing a final product, and producing a bibiliography page.

Reading: We are continuing to read Tuck Everlasting. Our EQs for the story:

1. Should people live forever?
2. Does every choice have a consequence?
3.Does your view of life depend on your age or stage in life?

For Grammar this week, we are continuing to look at prepositional phrases, as well as transitive and intrasitive verbs (writing has been taking up a lot of time – we will definitely do these lessons this week! Sorry for the delay and any confusion!)

Math: We have started our unit on integers. This week, we will be adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing like and unlike integers (++, –, +-, -+).

Religion: This week, we are exploring the liturgical season of Lent. We will be making Lenten promises

Social Studies: We have started our unit on Indian Empires.
