  • Picture Day is this Wednesday 10/3! Please make sure your child is in formal dress uniform and bring the order form with him or her to school. Thank you!
  • Our annual blessing of the animals is this Thursday 10/4 (Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi).
  • Student with the most money raised online for the Jogathon by Friday 10/5 will have the choice between being Miss Huscher’s music assistant or Mr. Arnas’s mad scientist assistant
  • Upcoming field trips… JAT 10/12 (we will need a few parents to walk to Pioneer Park with us, please let me know if you’re available), 10/22 Rocket Launch (Pioneer Park walkers), Symphony 10/30 (driver and parent chaperones needed – thanks!)

Jogathon – October 12th, 2018 – “Americana” —> Online donation

We’re entering our last few weeks of Jogathon collections!!! Our school goal for this year is $35,000. Contributions go towards funding our technology, science, art, and music programs. We have some great prizes this year!

  • Bring in a Gold Sponsor or higher earns 3 entries to the raffle for a Sony PS4
  • Student with the most money raised online by Friday 10/5 will have the choice between being Miss Huscher’s music assistant or Mr. Arnas’s mad scientist assistant
  • Every student who raises $100 in pledges or brings in a sponsor receives a free dress pass
  • Students who raise $500 or more in pledges will earn 5 entries to the PS4 raffle
  • Grade Cluster Prizes 6-8: The three students who raise the most money in Grades 6-8 will get to choose between: a $50 gift card of own choosing, a $100 gift card of own choosing, or a 32″ TCL Roku SmartTV.

THIS WEEK….

Reading/Language Arts: We are working our unit on the elements that make up a story, using short stories from our Prentice Hall Literature book as our primary texts. We’re reading “Lob’s Girl” and identifying theme within literature.

Vocab and Spelling Unit 5 tests will be on Friday, 10/5.

Grammar this week focuses on Future Tense and Irregular Plural Nouns. Test 2 is scheduled for next week.

Book report due date is coming up quickly – hope your child has been reading and working on their project! Due Wednesday 10/10 – see the rubrics and handouts page for more info!

Math: Our number systems unit focuses on using the place value system to recognize patterns, create relationships between numbers, and establishing generalizations (rules/properties) for operations with whole numbers and decimals. Please note that while a cumulative test will not be given until after the end of the unit, I will give smaller quizzes throughout the next few weeks (look out for the notice in your child’s homework planner or on the homework page of the class site).

This week, we’re continuing to delve into operations with decimals. This week, we’re focusing on division with whole numbers and decimals. Quiz is scheduled for Thursday, 10/4.

Religion: We will be continuing our investigation of the Old Testament by exploring the book of Genesis and the story of Creation. We’re continuing to discover the symbolism used by the biblical writers in the Creation stories – focus is on God’s creation of humans and on the expulsion from the Garden of Eden (sin is introduced to the world). Test will be on Wednesday, 10/4.

Social Studies: Our first Social Studies unit (Origins) focuses on the origins of civilization. We are reading about the movement to an agricultural people and how this led to the development of civilizations. This week, we will explore the features of a civilization. This is a fairly short chapter and our test is next week.

Note: This is a short chapter and our test will be on Wednesday, 10/10.

Art: We’re continuing to work on our artwork for the element of shape.
