Morning Assembly Expectations and Carpool Pick-Up Dismissal

I’m noticing a few issues with morning assembly and carpool so please remind your child of the following…

MORNING ASSEMBLY

  • Line up in a QUIET, STRAIGHT LINE
  • BE READY TO LISTEN & PARTICIPATE in the Pledge and Prayers
  • BE RESPECTFUL – no talking while Sr. K or another speaker is speaking
  • Number order (in your even or odd line)
  • NOT RECESS TIME (NOT A TIME TO BE PLAYING, TALKING, OR EATING/DRINKING)
  • Students are responsible for their belongings (Parents, please let your child carry their own backpack & say your goodbyes before assembly)

There has also been a significant amount of tardy students. It is imperative that your child is here on time and ready to start his/her day. Students will be marked tardy if they are not line by the final chime of the 8 o’clock Church Bell. If chronic tardiness continues, a conference with parents and principal will be required.

Thank you for your cooperation!

DISMISSAL

K-8 carpool pick-up from the school parking lot is from 12:45 – 3:00p. After 3:00p, only preschool parents should be on the parking lot for pick-up. We appreciate your cooperation!

I would also appreciate the reminder to your children that they need to be either on our dismissal line for carpool pick-up or in Mercy Hall for extended care. They should not be using their cell phones on campus without permission from a teacher, nor should they be anywhere else on campus or around the school premises for pick-up. Thank you!

THIS WEEK….

Reading/Language Arts: We are working our unit on the elements that make up a story, using short stories from our Prentice Hall Literature book as our primary texts. We’re reading “Lob’s Girl” and identifying theme within literature.

NO VOCAB/SPELLING UNIT THIS WEEK OR NEXT WEEK – we’re taking a break from our book to bury some overused, dull words from our vocabulary usage.

Grammar this week focuses on irregular plural nouns. Grammar test 2 is scheduled for next Wednesday 10/17.

Book report due date is coming up quickly – hope your child has been reading and working on their project! Due this Wednesday 10/10 – see the rubrics and handouts

Math: Our number systems unit focuses on using the place value system to recognize patterns, create relationships between numbers, and establishing generalizations (rules/properties) for operations with whole numbers and decimals. Please note that while a cumulative test will not be given until after the end of the unit, I will give smaller quizzes throughout the next few weeks (look out for the notice in your child’s homework planner or on the homework page of the class site).

This week, we’re continuing to delve into operations with decimals. This week, we’re focusing on division with whole numbers and decimals. Quiz was moved to this Tuesday, 10/9.

PLEASE NOTE: our test encompassing all operations with decimals is scheduled for Thursday, 10/11.

Religion: We will be continuing our investigation of the Old Testament by exploring the book of Genesis and the story of Creation. We’re continuing to discover the symbolism used by the biblical writers in the Creation stories – focus is on the break in our relationship with God and, while our tendency to sin create a rift in this relationship, God never gives up on us.

Social Studies: Our first Social Studies unit (Origins) focuses on the origins of civilization. We are finishing up with unit with a test on Wednesday 10/10.

Art: We’re continuing to work on our artwork for the element of shape.
