A FEW NOTES FROM ME

Way to run at the JAT on Friday! As a class, we were just under 1000 laps total (1000+ if you count all those laps I ran :D). There’s still time to get in donations for our school. Click here to donate or send the link out to families and friends. We’re still under our goal for the year…
Please email me if you need to know your child’s total laps for donation collection.
A Few Events Coming Up…
  • Upcoming field trips… Symphony 10/30 (driver and parent chaperones needed – thanks!)
  • NO SCHOOL THIS FRIDAY (teacher work day)
  • Parent-teacher conferences are next Wednesday and Thursday. Please make sure to be on time – our schedule is very tight and I want to make sure we have as much time to talk as possible!
  • Halloween Carnival is next Friday, October 26 – get all those forms in ASAP!

Carpool Pick-up & Dismissal

I’m noticing a few issues with morning assembly and carpool so please remind your child of the following…

MORNING ASSEMBLY

  • Line up in a QUIET, STRAIGHT LINE
  • BE READY TO LISTEN & PARTICIPATE in the Pledge and Prayers
  • BE RESPECTFUL – no talking while Sr. K or another speaker is speaking
  • Number order (in your even or odd line)
  • NOT RECESS TIME (NOT A TIME TO BE PLAYING, TALKING, OR EATING/DRINKING)
  • Students are responsible for their belongings (Parents, please let your child carry their own backpack & say your goodbyes before assembly)

There has also been a significant amount of tardy students. It is imperative that your child is here on time and ready to start his/her day. Students will be marked tardy if they are not line by the final chime of the 8 o’clock Church Bell. If chronic tardiness continues, a conference with parents and principal will be required.

Thank you for your cooperation!

DISMISSAL

K-8 carpool pick-up from the school parking lot is from 12:45 – 3:00p. After 3:00p, only preschool parents should be on the parking lot for pick-up. We appreciate your cooperation!

I would also appreciate the reminder to your children that they need to be either on our dismissal line for carpool pick-up or in Mercy Hall for extended care. They should not be using their cell phones on campus without permission from a teacher, nor should they be anywhere else on campus or around the school premises for pick-up. Thank you!

THIS WEEK….

Reading/Language Arts: We are finishing up our unit on short stories with a tale from our Realms of Gold Literature book, “The Cask of Amontillado”. This delightfully spooky tale by Edgar Allen Poe will take us on an exploration of setting and character usage.

** Test on elements of a story this Thursday 10/18 (plot elements i.e. story mountain, conflict, theme, character, setting).

NO VOCAB/SPELLING UNIT THIS WEEK – we’re taking a break from our book to bury some overused, dull words from our vocabulary usage… come check out our dead words graveyard.

Grammar test 2 is scheduled for this Wednesday 10/17.

Start planning for your quarter 2 book report… non-fiction. Biographies, autobiographies/memoirs, histories, and how-to’s all fall under this broad genre.

Math: We are moving on to use our knowledge of decimals to applications of patterns, relationships, and generalizations (rules/properties) for operations with FRACTIONS. Please note that while a cumulative test will not be given until after the end of the unit, I will give smaller quizzes throughout the next few weeks (look out for the notice in your child’s homework planner or on the homework page of the class site).

If your child wants to retake the Decimal Operations Test from last Thursday, he/she must submit the redo request to me by Wednesday to retake on Thursday.

Religion: We will be continuing our investigation of the Old Testament by exploring the book of Genesis and the story of Creation. We’re continuing to discover the symbolism used by the biblical writers in the Creation stories – focus is on the break in our relationship with God and, while our tendency to sin create a rift in this relationship, God never gives up on us.

*** Test is scheduled for Wednesday, October 17.

Social Studies: We are moving into Mesopotamia for our next Social Studies unit. In this unit, we will discover the Fertile Crescent.

Art: We’re continuing to work on our artwork for the element of shape.
