A FEW NOTES FROM ME

 A Few Events Coming Up…
  • Upcoming field trips… Symphony 10/30
  • Parent-teacher conferences are this Wednesday and Thursday. Please make sure to be on time – our schedule is very tight and I want to make sure we have as much time to talk as possible!
  • Halloween Carnival is this Friday – get all those forms in ASAP!

Carpool Pick-up & Dismissal

Just a friendly reminder – K-8 carpool pick-up from the school parking lot is from 12:45 – 3:00p. After 3:00p, only preschool parents should be on the parking lot for pick-up. We appreciate your cooperation!

I would also appreciate the reminder to your children that they need to be either on our dismissal line for carpool pick-up or in Mercy Hall for extended care. They should not be using their cell phones on campus without permission from a teacher, nor should they be anywhere else on campus or around the school premises for pick-up. Thank you!

THIS WEEK….

Reading/Language Arts: We’re continuing to work in our Realms of Gold Literature book with another Edgar Allen Poe work, “The Raven”. We’re discussing the use of prose and narrative voice, as well as exploring the symbolic use of a raven throughout literature.

Vocab Unit 6 this week. Tests will be on Friday 10/26, first thing in morning…

Grammar this week  continues to focus on verb usage and will introduce prepositions.

Start choosing a book for your quarter 2 book report… non-fiction. Biographies, autobiographies/memoirs, histories, and how-to’s all fall under this broad genre. Book approval date is 11/7.

Math: We are moving on to use our knowledge of decimals to applications of patterns, relationships, and generalizations (rules/properties) for operations with FRACTIONS. Please note that while a cumulative test will not be given until after the end of the unit, I will give smaller quizzes throughout the next few weeks (look out for the notice in your child’s homework planner or on the homework page of the class site).

This week, we are focusing on fraction sense, comparing/ordering fractions, and adding/subtracting fractions.

Religion: We will be continuing our investigation of the Old Testament by exploring the book of Genesis and the story of Creation. This week, we will be starting to read about the Patriarchs (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph).

Social Studies: We are moving into Mesopotamia for our next Social Studies unit. In this unit, we will discover the Fertile Crescent. We’ve been focusing on the first known civilization, Sumer, and will spend this week discussing the different people who ruled this region after the Sumerians.

Art: We are exploring the element of value.
