A FEW NOTES FROM ME

Thank you for your generous gifts and cards – I am truly blessed to have such a loving class. I hope you all had a wonderful, relaxing holiday. Wishing you and yours a happy new year!

Don’t forget that the end of the quarter is almost upon us. If your child has any missing or redo assigments, they need to be turned in by Friday, Jan 11. Thanks!

Big thank you to all those who donated to San Diego Rescue Mission and Polinksy Center for our Advent collection – the 2nd and 6th graders did an awesome job leading the prayer service!

Don’t forget – your child can play Prodigy at home to practice math skills! It’s a fun, interactive game that helps build math skills and is geared to your child’s individual level!

THIS WEEK….

Reading/Language Arts:

Vocab – Vocab 10A this week.

Grammar this week focuses on linking verbs. If we are able to (STAR testing may interfere with timing…), we will start diagramming sentences.

We are finishing up reading for the quarter with “The Gift of the Magi”, by O. Henry. We are writing a 5-paragraph essay reflecting on (and proving) who gave the biggest sacrifice – Jim or Della?

Book report – Book reports for Quarter 2 are due this week! Project guidelines and rubrics can be found on the rubrics & handouts page of this site.

Math: We are taking a quick back from ratios and rates to look at equations and expressions. We will be translating various expressions, equations, and inequalities, as well as solving for one-step algebraic equations.

Religion: This week, our religion will focus on the Israelites journey to Canaan and the wandering in the desert. Test is schedued for next Wednesday, 1/16.

Social Studies: We have started our unit on Ancient Israel. It is important to note that, while many of the ideas we will encounter in this chapter are also reflected in our religious text, we are looking at the Israelites and Judaism through a historian’s lenses – how religion has shaped the culture and group of people know as the Israelites. We’ll also be exploring how laws and beliefs intertwine.
