THIS WEEK….

Reading/Language Arts:

Vocab – Vocab 14A this week – we will have a test NEXT Friday (no school this Friday or next Monday).

Writing: We will be starting some persuasive essays this week, in which we will be finding a topic, establishing a claim, finding research to support a claim, and offering counter-arguments.

Reading: We are moving away from shorts stories for the time being and starting our novel study, Tuck Everlasting. Towards the end of last week, we set up our logs and conducted a brief author study. This week, we’ll be diving into the story and exploring the characterization presented by Natalie Babbit.

For Grammar this week, we are continuing to work with adjectives (focus on proper vs. common) and capitalization rules (when not to capitalize).

Math: Continuing our unit on equations and expressions… adding fractions into the mix!

Religion: This week, we are jumping into an exploration of the Israelites as a royal people – specifically the appointment of Saul and David by the prophet Samuel, as well as the appointment of Solomon. Please note, we are combining Chapters 11 and 12. We will be beginning a project next week.

Social Studies: We are further exploring the development of Hinduism and Buddhism by comparing and contrasting the two major world religions, as well as reflecting on their impact on the Southeast Asian culture and global culture. Students are working on a project (they have the details) which is due on Thursday, 2/14.
