This week’s post is late and short… my apologies, it’s been a crazy week!
All three class have been working on some pretty spooktacular Halloween writings… 8th grade has been busy on their Spooky Snapshot narratives (focus on setting/sensory details, POV, and effective titles); 7th grade has been experimenting with blackout poetry using “The Monkey’s Paw,” a supernatural short story by author W. W. Jacobs; and 6th grade has been burying some tired over-used words and replacing them with more descriptive and precise vocabulary. We hope you’ll come check out our writing bulletin board as it turns into a graveyard next week in preparation for Halloween!
A few announcements to pass on…
It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s Super Family Literacy Night!
St. Vincent’s School is proud to announce our first ever family literacy night on Wednesday, November 6, from 5:45-7:30 in the St. Vincent’s Parish Hall. A family literacy night is an evening of fun activities that encourages community literacy. The reason is simple: We want to empower parents to promote literacy at home, as well as help parents learn teaching strategies that can help their children succeed in school.
This year’s event will be held in conjunction with our fall Scholastic book fair and feature a community read aloud. We hope you’ll join us for a fun, free evening of games, crafts, snacks, and more.
Please RSVP (so we have a head count of how many people to expect) at https://forms.gle/kBiM7Mxv13svauYJ6
